Laser Cut Pattern

For this weeks assignment I designed a 2d pattern to be laser cut. I created my pattern in Rhino and Grashopper following the Cairo Tessellation tutorial again, but instead of making my surface vertical I made it flat.

Then, I exported my file into ai. and opened it in illustrator. I tried to get help on how to get rid of all the different lines and was told to try to turn off the isocurve check mark in Rhino so that the pattern would have thicker lines instead. For some reason the lines would not change so I changed the stroke weight in illustrator so that my pattern turned out like this:

I wanted to put my logo into my pattern so that I could use it for decoration, so I simply inserted my logo in the middle and adjusted the colors so that the logo would be left as white space and the pattern would be engraved for my laser cut.

I sent in my design to Idea Forge for production and dropped off a transparent acrylic sheet. I am very excited to see the result when it is produced.
